African Night as Celebrated at Hoosac School
February 21st, 2022
It is no secret that Hoosac School is one of the most globally diverse schools in all of the United States. With students currently enrolled from 39 different countries, Niche.com has Hoosac ranked as the #6 most diverse high school in New York. With this in mind, faculty members Patricia Gomes Carneiro and Virginia Gilroy initiated a biweekly celebration of the cultures of Hoosac! Every other week a group of students representing a different part of the world will share in the food and cultural traditions, with dance, story, music and more!
This past Friday, Hoosac students organized African Night in the dining hall. The 3.5 hour evening celebration included student presentations and speeches, authentic recipes for formal dinner, and even concluded with a school-wide dance party.
Currently, there are students enrolled at Hoosac from Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan and Uganda. Which part of the world will be celebrated next?
