Joining a club at Hoosac is one of the many ways our students can enhance their social experience. Whether it is the Stock Market Club, Robotics Club or the Anime Club, there is something fun and unique for everyone.

At Hoosac School all students are required to take part in an extracurricular afternoon activity. As a relatively small boarding school, Hoosac provides each student with the opportunity to embrace their passions regardless of what their interests are. In the beginning of each academic year, students will gather in the library, setting up tables and presenting their club of choice to their peers. Students can sign up for as many clubs as they'd like and often end up diversifying their hobbies. Some of the many clubs offered at Hoosac School include:

Stock Market Club: The members of this club compete on an equities trading simulation platform via Investopedia. Other topics discussed include trading platforms, trading strategies, business valuation, rate of return, economics, finance, banking, accounting, financial planning, and retirement.

Robotics Club: One of the most rewarding experiences for our students is seeing their ideas come to life in the Makerspace. With our state of the art 3D printer and design software, we build real-life objects and print them routinely. Those who prefer robotics have the opportunity to participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition. The class works as a team to design, build and program robots to compete against others in this fun and rewarding challenge. Hoosac students are provided the flexibility to learn engineering and programming concepts for a multitude of applications, and also engage in other fun projects like coding and creating smartphone apps.

Ski & Snowboard Club: Hoosac is situated within an ideal region for winter sports and activities. If students like to ski or snowboard during those colder months, Hoosac offers a great chance to utilize some of the best mountains that are located in the Northeast part of the country. Hoosac visits Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort multiple times each week, with weekend trips to Bromley Mountain, Killington Ski Area and Pico Mountain Ski Resort.

Yoga & Meditation Club: Yoga offers a holistic strategy to support students in thriving in both their academic and personal lives, from stress relief to enhanced focus, physical fitness, and mental well-being.

Linear Algebra Club: Can't get enough of math? Linear algebra is the study of lines and planes, vector spaces and mappings that are required for linear transforms.

Outdoor/Fly Fishing Club: Hoosac is in a great location when it comes to outdoor recreational activities. The campus is situated on a smaller mountain which lends to some great hiking and mountain biking trails. Students have also participated in Yeoman activities which were activities crucial to the estate that existed before Hoosac received the lands for the school. Fishing both on campus in Tibbits Pond and off campus is very popular.

Music Club: Today, the music program at Hoosac serves to meet every student at whatever point they find themself in their musical journey. This can range from just getting started on an instrument like piano, guitar, bass, and violin, or singing, and can range all of the way up through advanced study of music theory, composition, or performance. Most musicians at Hoosac will perform in front of the school at some point.

Art Club: Art is for people of all ages, backgrounds, and skills. At Hoosac, we believe that the study of art plays a crucial role in education and self growth. Students are encouraged to have fun exploring new ideas, and developing their creative minds through visual art and critical thinking. Many students who want to pursue art in college will work on building their portfolio at this time.

Yearbook Club: Students work together participating in the digital design of creating the annual Yearbook at Hoosac School. Students will learn how to use InDesign and practice their photography skills as well.

Newspaper & Literary Magazine Club: Hoosac School has two regular publications which are released biannually: Hoosac Today (Magazine) and Alumni Owlet (Newspaper). At this club students utilize the Adobe Creative Suite to help create content before going to print.

Anime Club: Students read manga, play anime-themed board and card games, do arts & crafts, and watch anime movies and television! The club has planned activities that explore how Japanese culture influences anime.

Chess Club: You do not have to be an expert to join the Chess Club. Players of all levels ranging from beginner to intermediate are always welcome. Join today and compete in organized tournaments for a grand prize.

Improv/Theatre & Drama Club: Follow in the footsteps of the late Burgess Meredith, Hoosac alum who starred in both Rocky and Batman.

History Club: This club explores both the history of Hoosac School, the origin of the Hoosac School campus, and other surrounding historical areas such as the Bennington Battlefield.

Ping Pong/Table Tennis Club: If you can beat Mr. Ward or Mr. Pereira then this club is for you! Compete in campus wide singles and doubles tournaments with your friends!

Golf Club: From a full round of golf, to a relaxing afternoon competition of chipping and putting, the golf club is the perfect escape for both experts and beginners.

Hoosac Chats: An informal, comfortable space where students gather around for a discussion, weekly, on different topics ranging from social media trends to political opinions.

Other extracurricular activities are also designed to meet the varied interests of the School's diverse student body. Students take part in stage plays and choral events, plan outings, dances and the prom, and other activities, often ones geared towards community service and fundraising.

Hoosac varsity teams compete against other independent schools in the region in tennis, soccer, hockey, lacrosse, basketball, volleyball, baseball and cross country. Skiing, flag football, swimming, ultimate frisbee, skating, snowboarding, and bicycling are all offered as recreational and intramural sports.

On weekends, students attend dances at Hoosac as well as at other schools. Lectures, concerts, plays, skiing at nearby slopes, ice skating, movies, shopping, and excursions to nearby amusement parks and historical sites are other popular activities.

Hoosac's rich tradition of bringing in the Elizabethan Boar's Head and Yule Log at Christmas is the single oldest among independent schools in the country. Other special events on the school calendar include Parents Weekend, Bleeze Banquet, ASADO Day and Prize Day & Commencement.
