Stock Market Club Sees Success: On the Exchange & On-Campus

November 8th, 2021

With the recent popularity of personal finance apps such as Robinhood and Stash, the Hoosac Stock Market Club was established by students who all shared a common interest in investing and wanting to learn more about trading. Dean of Students, Mr. Kevin Robichaud, first noticed students gaining an interest in this area during his Financial Management class.

So far this year, the club has discussed business valuation, equities, bonds, mutual funds, ETFs, Cryptocurrency, NFTs, and an assortment of other investment options. During the times the club meets, the student-participants use a trading simulator on Investopedia where Mr. Robichaud has created a trading challenge on the platform. Each student has received “$100,000” to invest at their discretion. The participant with the highest rate of return on their portfolio will receive a special honor.

Mr. Robichaud has also established a club portfolio for the participants to follow throughout the year. Thus far, about a month after inception, the class portfolio has gained over 30% (2,000% annualized)! The club is planning a trip down to New York City to visit the New York Stock Exchange and Wall Street. There, the students can experience guided tours with former traders, bankers, and others with insider knowledge of NYC's Financial District.
