Boys Elite Soccer Wins Fall GESP League Championship

November 2nd, 2022

The Hoosac School Boy’s Elite Soccer Team closed out the GESP (Global Education Sports Partners) League play on Sunday in front of a loud and large crowd of students and faculty. The game had a lot of implications for Hoosac entering the match. If Hoosac won, they would win the inaugural Fall season of the GESP League. A tie, or a loss would land Hoosac in second place, behind Woodstock Academy.

Hoosac entered the game very strongly creating multiple chances, but St. Thomas More did a good job to contain the attackers of Hoosac, only allowing shots from tough angles. Finally, in the 32nd minute, Jose Corporan '23 converted off of an outstanding sequence of passing that led directly to the goal. It was enough to give the Owls a 1-0 lead heading into halftime of a must win game.

The game opened up in the second half, as Hoosac used more direct play to break down the defense of St. Thomas More. Eventually, chances were created in the middle of the pitch and Hoosac was able to start converting. Second half goals were scored by Lapo Romieri '23 (2), Teo Fernandez '24 and Jiseong Choi '24. The four second half goals secured the league championship with a 5-0 win.

Joe Faro backstopped the Owls, making two saves to keep the clean sheet.
