Hoosac Students Shine at MasterMinds!

January 30th, 2023

One academic competition in particular that is allowing Hoosac students to shine is MasterMinds. Thus far the Hoosac team has been a successful contender in the MasterMinds league. MasterMinds is a quiz bowl-style academic competition for high school students across New York.

In their inaugural season, the Hoosac MasterMinds currently hold 4th place in the league, with two of our students maintaining a ranking in the top 15 for individual scoring. VIth Formers Alexandra Wang '23 and Eliot Lauzon '23 hold 4th and 14th, respectively.

Meets are held after school with each league gathering once every few weeks. Each meet is normally designed so that each school plays two matches. The questions cover a broad range of topics including: art, biology, chemistry, current events, geography, history, literature, music, political science, pop culture, religion and sports.

On Friday, January13th, the students traveled to Albany for two matches against local schools, Tamarac and Troy High School, the first and second place teams in the league. Hoosac came out victorious in one of the two matches.
