Beyond Plastics at Bennington College

March 16th, 2021

As previously shared, we are very excited that Hoosac students have the opportunity to earn credit from Bennington College this term. The course, Beyond Plastics, is taught by former EPA Regional Director Judith Enck, who served under the Obama Administration. The class highlights the growing problem of plastic pollution throughout the globe and examines actions required to facilitate real and lasting change. Hoosac students currently enrolled in Bennington College’s Beyond Plastics course had this to say:

Sara McKillip '21: At first, it definitely was quite intimidating to speak up because of the size of the class and how knowledgeable everyone is. However, everyone is very accepting and curious, and discussing different perspectives is encouraged. It has opened my eyes to what is happening to the plastic we are disposing of and where it ends up.

Ben Williams '22: Each week we learn and discuss important information about what we can do to help combat the ever growing problem of plastic pollution in the environment. I am very excited to continue learning and hope to become a part of the change.

Sofija Filipovic '22: The course isn't just teaching me the cruel reality about pollution, it goes much further than that. I now understand the importance of the quantity of people that have to be involved to make a change. As such, I've learned that I too have to do my part and persuade my peers to be part of the movement.
