Hoosac School's Boys Varsity Tennis Team are the defending NEPSAC Champions!

Coach Gilroy: A native of Brazil, Hoosac's head coach Mrs. Virginia Gilroy was introduced to tennis at a very young age. As an exchange student in Dennis, Massachusetts, she became the number one player at her high school, Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School. Because of her impressive showing at a number of tournaments, she became highly sought after in the recruiting circuit. She ended up accepting a full scholarship to Concordia College in New York, which would ultimately prove to be the beginning of what would become a great tennis career.

As a student-athlete, Gilroy became the number one doubles tennis player for all four years. In addition, she served as the team captain for her final three years of college. Gilroy graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

Shortly after graduating Gilroy was invited to take over as the Womens Tennis coach for Concordia College.

After 5 years coaching at the college level, a great opportunity came along. She was hired as the first woman to work in the athletic department at a very prestigious country club: Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, New York. There, she became the Head Pro.

Years later she finally returned to Brazil where she opened her own tennis academy called Match Point Tennis School. The school became her life, and after 26 years, and 250 students later, she decided to return back to the United States to become a citizen.

Gilroy brings all her experience and passion to Hoosac and strives to make every athlete on the team reach for their goals. She is living proof that competing at the high school level can open unimaginable doors.
